My Covering by Pam Dobbs. 1 4/5 (1)

There is something about human nature that does not like the falling rain or any element of nature to forcefully pound down upon us. However, if we venture out into a rainstorm, hail, or snow without something to protect us, within seconds we become soaked from the chilling element falling from the heavens. We understand that if we want to avoid becoming saturated with the falling rain, we must take advantage of some type of protection. and dances on my last nerve like being ignored.

February 10 is recognized around the world as National Umbrella Day. Umbrellas and parasols are primarily handheld portable devices designed for covering. Isn’t it amazing that such a common item has received worldwide recognition? Yet, this simple covering affords protection for millions of people. When walking out into the forceful rains, the key to staying dry is to remain under the protection of an umbrella. We find shelter from harsh weather conditions. By stepping out from under its protection, we open ourselves to the environment around us.

As a Holy Ghost filled child of God, I understand spiritual downpours will come. Each day I choose to place myself under His ultimate umbrella of protection. I choose to walk through this life hand in hand with God. From beneath the umbrella of His safety, I am honoring His authority and obeying His Word, while reaching out to the lost and dying.

I am reminded of the words of Psalm 23:6: “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.” Let us lift up our heads from the storms of this present world and focus on Jesus as we dwell in the house of the Lord. While we walk close with Him under the protection of His umbrella, we declare to the elements around us, He is “my covering.”
