I Trust His Heart by Darla Sherry. 1 4/5 (1)

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he
will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6).

How many times as a child did I hear my mom quote this scripture? In our house, it was said so often we all knew it by heart. Of course, at that time, I had no real idea of the weight this verse if Scripture carried and how much lighter the load of parenting could feel after being reminded of it. Fast forward twenty years, and now as a mom of two young boys, I’m forever grateful for those words spoken over me.

Parenting is one of the toughest jobs in the world. Often as a mother, we feel insignificant, or we wonder if we are doing it “right.” When issues arise with our children and we take it to the Lord in prayer, God in His sweet and perfect way will give us a key to that particular issue. The test comes, however, when we’ve finished praying and begin to implement the direction that God showed us in prayer. What happens when there is no quick or visible change? It’s in those moments that we have to trust the heart of God and know that what He has said, He will do. There are times we must make our flesh submit to the Spirit, and do as Philippians 4:6-7 so beautifully says.

“Be careful (don’t worry) for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

God has given us promises, and perhaps even prophetic words, concerning our children. But we as moms must intercede on their behalf and make a way in the Spirit for the promises of God to be fulfilled in them. All the while, we must trust and believe the Word of the Lord. Second Samuel 22:31 says, “As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler (a shield surrounding a person) to all them that trust in him.”

We can trust the heart of God when it comes to our children. After all, He is the One who created them!

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).
